Day 1- June 27, 2014 The Gale's Cross Canada Adventure Begins

After working the morning and then packing up last minute items, we were off by 2:00.

Ready to go, we think!

Only got a little ways down the road and the trailer was swaying back and forth. Back home to tighten things up and we were off again. Turned around yet again thinking we might have to leave the bikes at home. Once things were balanced out and the bikes IN the trailer we were gone by 3:00. Stopped briefly in Crossfield to readjust once more. We should make Balzac by night fall, at this rate!

Here we go!

Got to Medicine Hat for fuel and to the world's largest teepee. Thought the holiday was over even before it started as both of our credit cards and bank card were declined at the first fuel station. Turned out there was something wrong with their machine! A little stressful as we didn't know which kid to sell first. LOL We also saw our first wildlife, a deer! Just outside of the Hat we saw pronghorn, Canada's fastest land animal at 95 km/hr. We also saw a badger and smelled a skunk!😳.

Medicine Hat

Scott's highlight of the day was passing 2 vehicles in a row!! The kids noticed the trains were very long.

Pulled into Swift Current about 10 pm, had a quick bite at Tim Hortons. Comical part of the day for my family was watching me trying to order just a piece of grilled chicken, NO bun. Lack of their English understanding almost had me giving up. I did eventually get some cut up grilled chicken in a cup!
