Day 13- July 9 Saint John to Hopewell Cape, NB
Started the morning in a very thick fog as we ventured out to explore Saint John. Found a place to park the vehicle and trailer at King's Square. Walked from there down to the boardwalk and down the Trafalgar Stairs. It was difficult to see the ships in the harbour due to the thick fog, but if you concentrated you could see the outline of them.

Saw Moosehead Moose (a statue), the Loyalist Rock, Irving Clock and eventually into the City Market. We sampled some smoked salmon and had some lunch after walking around. Stopped at the Three Sisters Lamps, which if ships can see all 3 lamps they know they are entering the harbour straight .

Then we headed back to the reversing rapids to see the flow of the river at low tide. What a difference the falls were from high tide!! The water was now flowing over the rapids and back out into the Bay of Fundy.

Left Saint John about 3:00 along the Fundy Coastal Drive. A very windy, bumpy highway, but the sun was shining!! We saw some cute little towns and interesting sights along this road.

We by-passed Moncton and headed south to Hopewell Cape for the night. Set up at Ponderosa Pines Park at Lower Cape and then went to investigate the Hopewell Rocks as high tide was coming. We spent about an hour walking on the ocean floor and as we were the last ones on the beach, we had to hang the closed sign for the park warden.

Better watch the high tide behind us! |

Drove only 3.5 hours today and we are really looking forward to kayaking the Hopewell Rocks tomorrow morning.
Oh yes that will be nice to kayak Hopewell Rocks...they are really amazing. Was a very very long set of stairs to climb when we were there but well worth it in the end
ReplyDeleteThe City Market looks like the one in Cairns that we went to! Can't wait to see the kayaking pictures....so fun!!!!
