Day 18- July 14 PEI to Nova Scotia

Day 18- July 14   P.E.I. to Nova Scotia

Left Cavendish P.E.I. this morning in the rain, after 3 days of beautiful sunshine.  Stopped at Rustico Harbour to see the light house.

So many different types of light houses

P.E.I. being so small, we were in Charlottetown before we knew it.  Parked at the Best Western again and walked to the Province House, aka Confederation House, or also known as the parliament building.  Charlottetown is known as the birthplace of confederation in 1864.  The parliament building isn't as architecturally appealing  as the others that came after.

Had lunch while walking around and stopped at St. Dunstan's Basilica.  There were 3 churches within 3 blocks.  Enjoyed walking around the parliament and left Charlottetown by 2:30.
Beautiful interior

As we drove towards the ferry to Nova Scotia we saw lots of potatoe fields and strawberry patches.  We stopped at The Chuckwagon Farm Market to buy local veggies and jam, the strawberries are delicious!

Our next stop was Pt. Prim Lighthouse which was built in 1845.  Not sure how tall it was but, the base was 80 ft above sea level.   Darby and I went in and climbed the lighthouse stairs, what  a stunning view from the top.  I was very happy to see the lighthouse.

Land ahoy matey!!

Narrow stairs

Got to the ferry shortly after 4:00 and boarded almost right away.  Sailing time was 4:30 to Nova Scotia.  This was the first time the kids remember being on a big ferry so we walked around for awhile.  Then Scott and Hailey played cards and Darby & Brody read in the trailer with Mickey.  The ferry ride was just a little over an hour and we were the third ones off after the motorbikes.

Stopped in New Glasgow at the Canadian Tire and Atlantic Super Store for major groceries.
Lots of dead porcupines along the road, so they are either not a smart animal or they are too slow.  Played the ABC car game on types of cars, food,  places we've been, places we haven't been to, places in Canada and any other topic we could think of.
Setting up

Got to the Linwood Campground, that Brody picked for us, for late supper of leftovers and fresh corn on the cob.  We have put on over 6000 km so far.
