Day 22- July 18 Newfoundland Doyle to Twillingate

Day 22- July 18  Newfoundland   Doyle to Twillingate

Left our rainy campsite in Doyle for the start of our Newfoundland adventure, the final province.  It soon stopped and we travelled under overcast skies.  The landscape is more mountainous then we thought it would be.

Landscape of the Rock, aka Newfoundland

Got fuel at Corner Brook, the second biggest city in NFLD and saw snow in the distance on the mountain.  Passed Marble Mountain, their local ski hill.

Drove through Deer Lake and then further down the road had a picnic in Springdale at the visitor center.
Something to look forward to

Stopped in Lewisporte for fuel and a few groceries as we left the TransCanada & headed North.  Saw lots of water and many islands as well as small fishing villages as we approached Twillingate.
Beautiful landscape

Saw our first iceberg as we were driving into town, WOW!  We could see them right from our campsite.
Soooooo close to town!

Drove up to the 1876 Long Point Lighthouse and viewing platform.  We could see lots of icebergs and even saw whales from this awesome vantage point!

They look so small from the point

Amazing, there's an iceberg so close

Pulled into Peyton RV and everyone headed out on their bikes to see all the icebergs at sunset. Quite stunning!  Brody and Hailey even went in the water to retrieve a smaller iceberg and bring it to shore.  Eventually someone took it and put it in their cooler, I guess that's the thing to do in Twillingate.

Drove for 7 hours today, but well worth it as this was a must see on Scott's list.  We weren't even sure seeing icebergs were going to be possible at this time of year, but Mother Nature cooperated.
