Day 27- July 23 Gros Morne
Left our site with our trailer in tow today and drove back up North 30 minutes to Western Brook Pond. We hiked the 45 min trail along board walks and gravel paths through marsh and bog area. This area was once covered by the ocean and now we see a variety of flowers, berries, trees and other plants. Saw Shelley, the resident moose when we arrived at the docks for our tour.

Western Brook Pond |
We took a two hour tour on the pond, but it's really a lake, crazy Newfie term. It was very windy and hot today on the lake. The sheer cliffs surrounded the 600 foot deep lake. At one time it use to be salt water and connected to the ocean. They have found whale bones and sea shells as proof. The lake is fresh water now and very pure. The lake was carved out by glaciers millions of years ago and is a great fjord to explore by boat.

Cliff tops |
Saw 3 different waterfalls and rock formations. One they call the Tin Man and the other is a siloette of a rock face.
 |
Can you see the man's face along the ridge? |
 |
Fantastic windy hike |
Hiked back to Mickey and our unit after the gang had soup and buns at the dock. Drove to Corner Brook for fuel and a stop at Dominions for groceries. Pulled into Grand Codroy in Doyle for the night. Mosquitos and black flies were nasty here, and it was still 18 degrees at 11:00 pm.

Last sunset on the rock |
Early night as we are up early tomorrow to catch the ferry off The Rock back to Nova Scotia.
Drove 5 hours today down familiar roads again.
