Day 3- June 29 Brandon, Manitoba

Day 3- June 29  Brandon, Manitoba

It was a dark and stormy night in Brandon!  Lots of broken tree branches around the camp site and even a large tree down at the site across from us!  The drive was slow going today with so much water on the roads.
Rain X is amazing!

Got to Winnipeg and Scott's first home at #6 Bourkewood place.  He doesn't really know if it's changed much as they moved when he was only 6 months old!
Scott's first home

Our next stop was the Winnipeg parliament building with the golden boy on top.  Hailey and I were the only ones to brave the rain for this photo opp.

The streets in Winnipeg were so rough and bumpy, winter must be very hard here!  We made it to the Royal Canadian Mint and drove through the parade of flags.  The flags are of all the countries they produce coinage for at the mint.  The tour was very interesting, but unfortunately the machines weren't up and running today.   The Winnipeg Mint produces all of the Canadian coins in circulation.  We learnt that the first one dollar coin was to have a canoe & 2 voyageurs paddling on a river, but it went missing in transit, typical Canada post.  The gift store was one of the most expensive ones I've ever been in.  The building itself is meant to look like a mountain glistening on the prairies.

Not glistening today with all this rain.

Still in the rain, we stopped at the Ontario boarder for another photo opp, Darby braved this one with me.  This is the first time all 3 kids have been in Ontario.
Look out Ontario the Gales have arrived!

Stopped at Anicinabe Park in Kenora for the night, near Lake of the Woods.   It's beautiful here with so many lakes and islands.  Supper inside again as it was STILL raining!
Still monsooning

Another good day driving 5.5 hours and the highlight was touring the Royal Canadian Mint.
