Day 33- July 29 Peggy's Cove & The Blue Nose II
We left our campsite north of Halifax about 10 am in the mist and fog as we made our 35 minute drive to Peggy's Cove. We left the trailer at our site and will pick it up later.

Foggy day, good thing we are going to a lighthouse |
We drove past the Swiss Air 111 memorial site for the plane that crashed off the coast Sept. 2/98. The homes in Peggy's Cove were just past the memorial. Peggy's Cove light house is built on top of large boulders which were fun to climb over. The waves were crashing against the lower rocks, it was pretty spectacular to watch. The sun was coming out when we were done browsing the gift store just before noon.

Stopped and bought 4 fresh lobsters for supper tonight. Ryer Lobster even put them on ice in a portable cooler for our trip. We saw Larry the Lobster who is 8.8 lbs and in his mid 20's, they are going to release him in the wild next week.
 |
Too bad we didn't have a big enough cooler for Larry! |
We drove past Queensland, but we weren't in Australia, on our way to Lunenberg, home of the Blue Nose II. The Blue Nose, the undefeated champion of the North Atlantic fishing fleet and the winner of four international schooner races from 1921 to 1931, is on our Canadian dime. Lunenberg county is known as the balsam fir Christmas tree capital of the world.

Bluenose II |
After having lunch on the outside patio overlooking the docks we walked to see the Blue Nose II. Old Town Lunenberg is called the best surviving example of a planned British colonial settlement in North America. The town was built on a steep hill and many houses on the narrow streets had the Lunenberg bump.

Drove back to our campsite to pick up our trailer and we were gone by 4:30. Drove through Truro past mammoth hill and many wind turbines.
 |
A mammoth! |
Got to Amherst Shores Provincial Campground around 8:00 pm to have a wonderful feast of lobster! Brody and Hailey went to explore the area on their bikes as we prepped for supper. What a great site that Darby selected for us.
